Problem with motherboard
 

Hi everyone,

I had a problem with the motherboard of my PC (an old PC with an old motherboard) and I decided to change it taking a similar one.
I got a ROCKY-4786EVG-RS-R41 (the same brand of the old one and the only one with system chipset Intel 865 and ICH5).

I swapped the boards but the result is that my software doesn't fit in the screen.
It seems that resolution of my software is setted bigger than the OS.

I'm not a Linux expert (I can say I'm really a beginner) and I'm using an old Linux version (Linux SuSE 9.0 with Kernel 2.4.21-99-DEFAULT) and I can't upgrade it.
I tried already to instal the i865 driver with konqueror and YaST but no luck at the moment.

Any idea about the issue?

you most probably have a different graphic chip in the new mother board and your system doesn't know how to deal with it, thus changing (i guess lowering) resolution as it defaults to some default driver.

somewhere in your desktop environment must be a gui for changing screen or monitor resolutions, try playing with that.

you yourself pointed out that your linux version is old (which is putting it mildly) - if you have to update drivers or the kernel, it will most probably not work.
you should be glad your system is working at all right now.

but for the sake of helpfulness, post the outputs of "xrandr", "lspci" and "lsmod" (each command entered into a terminal).

Thanks ondoho, I already try to "play" with YaST changing resolution, video driver and monitor without any effect on the system.

When I restart again it's still too big!!!!!

Now the system is down but as soon as I will post the result of lsmod.

Any suggestion?

you are right the problem is not clear....sorry but I haven't so much experience with Linux OS.

Unfortunately these days I can not use my PC to give more details because it is not available.

Meanwhile I was thinking to reinstal the i865 driver but I have a question..... have I to close the xserver?

If so, how do I stop / restart it with my Linux version?

Now I have a problem with the print format :( .....last print line is missing.

I tried to reinstal the printer and change the settings from control centre and YaST but no effect.

Always problems :)

All fixed.....no more problems.
