Problem with Microsoft Sound System 80 in Fedora 4

I have Microsoft Sound System 80, which is connected to the USB. Fedora recognizes it as a sound card and it works fine when I trying to hear music. But when two programs are trying to send sounds to the sound card, only one succeeds and the other is waiting till the first is finished. For example, when I hear music and use gaim, I hear all the gaim events after the song ends.
Any idea, what is the problem?

I've got the same sound system and I'm running SimplyMEPIS 3.3.1, and I can't hear anything at all! Any luck tracking your problem down?
