Problem with KVM switch

I bought a Newlink KVM switch. However when I use it to connect 2 PCs, one running Windows98 and the other Linux, the Fonts on the Linuc PC shrink to almost unreadable size.

When I try to increase the font size not all fonts get resized. For example the text in message windows and the Left Hand side of the Konqueror File Manager (the directories) remain small. Individual apps also need to have their fonts resized.

This happens with both Mandrake 10.1 and Debian Sarge. I am running KDE on both and my Video Card is an Nvidia FX5200. The Windows PC seems unaffected.

I can live with the problem if I can resize ALL the fonts.

Can anybody help?

That is really weird. How does the system detect the switch? Have you compared the log files /var/log/XFree86.0.log (?) with and without the KVM switch in place?

Solved it!

The problem was that Xorg could not get EDID info from the monitor through the KVM switch. As a result it was unable to determine the Display Size and set the DPI to 75,75.

Solution: I inserted: DisplaySize = 280 210
in xorg.conf after VertRefresh and all was OK.

Now to tour all the other forums where this question was asked by others and not solved....:)

Thanks for the help.
