Question problem with kudzu configuring network card

Hi, I am a newbie to linux. I am using phat linux witch is mandrake linux. Anyway I got all of the other hardware for my computer configured, But while I'm in the in the kudzu program I tell it to configure my network card and the screen goes black and the computer does nothing. How can I fix this problem?
