Question problem with jumping mouse

I have started using linux for the first time.
I'm using GNOME GUI on linux 7.3.
For some reason my mouse keeps jumping across the screen and clicking randomly. I'm not sure if the this hardware or software problems.
Please help!

Sounds like you have the mouse setup to use the wrong device or the wrong driver. What type of mouse are you using, and which distro ?
