Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Unhappy problem with intel core2duo processor

hello
i'm using a linux pc having 2 GB of RAM. it has intel core2duo processor. as far as i know that this type of processor has two cores and more efficient and fast.
but i doubt my machine is not working as per its potential.i click on "system load indicator" which can be added on panel.it shows that only one cpu is being used, the other is not.
moreover i dont think my pc is very fast. the os is FEDORA CORE 6.
how can i use both the core? is there any way to do parallel processing in this machine?
i dont know hardware a lot....
so please help me out from the very scratch
thanks in advance

You need a smp enabled kernel in order to be able to use multiple cpus (either multiple cpus or multiple-core cpus).

In a console, run 'uname -a'. In you don't see -smp in the kernel name, then you need to install the correct kernel.
