Unhappy problem with installing wavecome modem on Slackware linux 9.1

does any one has experience on installing wavecom modem(Fastrack modem)?

I plug my modem into Com1(actually not sure if its com1 but since there is only one serial port on this computer then i assume its com1). i did not install any driver for this modem. actually this modem comes with no driver.

then i do "ln -s /dev/ttyS0 /dev/modem"

i have a program which can send sms via this modem. but it seems that now its not working.

so what i want to know is how to check whether my modem is working properly or not.

here's some info that may be useful

i run this command "setseria -g /dev/ttyS0"

output: /dev/ttyS0, UART:16550A, Port:0x03f8, IRQ:4

sorry for my bad english and hope that you can understand what i am saying

any help is appreciated. thanks a lot
