Problem with Broadcom Gigabit Integrated Ethernet Card in RHEL 5.4
Hi,
I recently bought a machine from Dell. It came with Windows7. But I wanted to install RHEL5. So I reformatted to RHEL5.4. And now it doesn't detect the netowrk card. The network card seems to be Broadcom 57XX Gigabit Integrated Ethernet Card (as per the Dell support website and the drivers and utilities CD). Also, Dell support said they don't have any linux driver for this. I googled around but couldn't find a solution to install the driver for this card.
1. How do I know what is the exact card?
2. How to install driver for this card?
You could try 'lspci' or 'dmidecode' to determine the exact model. Once you have this you should be able to find a suitable driver, even if it comes as source.

Now I did modprobe tg3 and there was no output to the terminal. So my guess, it loaded the module. But what am I supposed to do after that? I opened the Network Configuration GUI from System->Administration menu, but there was nothing showing under Devices. I tried to add a new device from the "Add new Device" wizard and selected Broadcom Tigon3. But when I want to activate it, it says:
Quote:
tg3 device eth0 doesn't seem to be present, delaying intialization.
I tried ifconfig eth0 and it said:
Quote:
[root@localhost sbin]# ifconfig eth0
eth0: error fetching interface information: Device not found
Same message for any eth#
I am still clueless!
What next? And where to look for?
