I'm having the same problem with the same distro and the same card. Mine actually works, but there's so much noise that I can't hear what's playing.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Try the following steps

I have the Audigy 2 Value (not ZS) and I have been able to get stereo sound for Fedora Core 4. I haven't yet been able to get surround sound.

See the steps I followed in the thread I posted earlier this week

The subject was "Enable AC3 passthrough for Audigy 2 value"
