Problem using the GN-wikg WLAN card in GNU/Linux
 

Hi.

I'm the (more or less ;) ) proud owner of a Gigabyte GN-WIKG MiniPCI 802.11b/g card, but i'm not able to get it working with linux.

If ANYONE has got this device working with Linux, please tell me with what distro(s) you got it working, and how you did it.

I need to be able to connect to WLAN's with my laptop (that contains the GN-WIKG), so i'm willing to move to virtually any distro (with a few exceptions :D) as long as it works.

I'm sorry that i have not provided the output of lspci, but the PC isn't running Linux ATM, but of course i'd like it to :O :) .

This is still in the works....but here's a link to my work in progres. http://www.angelfire.com/linux/hardwire/wireless.html I know it has a little way to come yet, but maybe it will get you on the right track. Odds are, you just need a driver and ndiswrapper to get it working. Let me know if the link helps you and what I can change to make it better!

Your best bet is to download the driver from here http://tw.giga-byte.com/Communicatio...ss_GN-WIKG.htm and follow the steps on my page (skipping step one obviously since you will already have the driver). Hope this helps!

Thanks for your advice, Agentvenom. I'll certainly look into that ( i have used ndiswrapper before, but not much).

Another interesting thing that i've found is THIS PAGE .

It's the home of a project called Rt2x00 that aims at providing a linux driver for WLAN devices using the Rt2500 chipsets among others.

And the thing is that the my GN-WIKG card uses precisely this chipset, so i'm hoping that it'll work. But first i'll go install Linux on my laptop.
