Problem of Redhat 9 on SATA Hard Drive

Hi everyone,

I have an Optiplex GX280SD Pentium 4 PC with a 160GB SATA hard drive. I am using Redhat 9 operating system. I can only use the hard drive by setting combination mode in BIOS. However, the speed for writing the data is quite slow by using that mode.

I have updated my kernel to 2.4.31, in order to use the SATA option. Unfortunately, the disk still can't be recognized, after switching the combination option to SATA option in BIOS. Could anyone help?

Sue

Take a look at this thread. It looks like there may be an issue with Dell servers and the 2.4 kernel with SATA.

Your options at this time appear to be to investigate the binary driver from Dell, or to upgrade to a 2.6 kernel based system.
