Problem mounting USB devices

USB automount on my mass storage devices such as my thumb drive, phone, etc which all previously automounted just fine on Fc9 (2.6.26.3-29.fc9.i686) seem to have stopped working. I'm not really sure where to go with this one, and googling didn't turn up much that seemed to apply. I did run dmesg and get the following result when connecting my phone (which acts as a mass storage)

Code:
usb 1-2.1: new full speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 33
usb 1-2.1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
usb 1-2.1: New USB device found, idVendor=04e8, idProduct=6663
usb 1-2.1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
usb 1-2.1: Product: MITS Mass Storage
usb 1-2.1: Manufacturer: Samsung
usb 1-2.1: SerialNumber: xyz
Any suggestions? Shouldn't it say that it has added it as /dev/sda1?
Plugging in to my laptop directly and not through the docking station, with log output that looks like above, I ran lsusb -d Samsung: and it returns zero results. I believe it should return my device correct?

You need to have usb mass storage driver either in the kernel or as module.
Check it by:
lsmod
look for usb-storage
or look in /lib/module/kernel-version/kernel/drivers/usb
or see /proc/.config
gzip -dc /proc/.config.gz > config.knl
see it that usb mass storage driver option is selected.

lsmod has hci_usb, but no usb-storage

Under /lib/module/2.6.26.3-29.fc9.i686/kernel/drivers/usb there IS a file called usb-storage.ko

/proc/.config is an empty file

And I do not have a .config.gz file to decompress.

Thanks for all the help though, this is definitely over my head! Still fairly new to Linux.
