problem ethernet ADSL & KNOPPIX 3.3
Hi to everybody,
i'm fresh new user of Linux, and i'm very satisfied.
But i've a couple of problems... one of these is:
if i run the "ADSL/PPPOE configuration utility" to connect via my 3com ADSL HOme connect ethernet modem this program try to configure the card and the modem.. but then says that the ACcess COncentrator of my provider doesn't respond .. mmm.. :-s what does it mean?
I had some problem with my old motherboard and a reltek pct netcard, but now i have a new epox motherboard with anudio and net on board, based on the Nvidia nFOrce2 chipset.
The first time i installed knoppix on hd i couldn't see the net card, but now with the same version (3.3) i found in a magazine the netcard seems to work. (even if i can' t install the drivers from the tar file.. when i compile it i give no errrs, but then if i give modconf the netcard is still not present in the list :-()
Why can't i go on the net with this veeery god modem? has it some particular setting? I think so because if i install the rp-pppoe drivers i have to "activate" a line at the end of /etc/ppp/pppoe.conf file , is written is just for my mdem. So, is it possible that i need some particular setting?
The other problem is that if i use the rp-pppoe drivers it seems to connect with the provider, but i can't reach any site, either ping doesn't work. ANd in addition i don't know hot to activate the conenction at boot with this driver: in the docs is writteni have to modify a file, but isn't present in any folder :-s
My provider is italian, TIscali, and gives a pppoa connection. Under WIndows everything goes well, so i don't know what to do.. i don't want to change modem, and i link Debian/Knoppix very much!!
Forgive me for beuing so long, i tried to be as clear as possible :-)
Can anybody help me?
Thanks a lot!!
