Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Problem detecting SATA connected hard disk on a HP DL380G6 (Proliant)

The server we are using is HP DL380G6 (Proliant) with Debian GNU/Linux 6.0 running on it. We inserted a StarTech.com 2 Port PCI Express eSATA Controller Adapter Card. When we attached a hard disk, it is automatically detected as desired.

However, when we are running the same server with XEN hypervisor, it fails to detect the hard disk.

When we try it on a server with a GA-P35-DQ6 mother board with exactly the same software as the HP DL380G6 and running XEN hypervisor it does work so it seems that the problem is specific to HP DL380G6 (Proliant).

Has anyone experienced a similar problem? My search on the internet hasn't really come up with any answers.

Below is an extract of the lcpci -vv
