problem accessing FUJI finepix Z20 camera through USB

Hello.

I've just bought the aforementioned digital camera.

I've noticed that the related software is shipped for Windows/OS X only, but thought there should be no problems accessing the device through USB. However, it seems like this is not that easy after all. After plugging in the USB cable, dmesg reports the device :

Code:
usb 2-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3
usb 2-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
However, no device node is created. I went on to see what has to say lsusb -v :

Code:

Google has no useful information about how to access this device in Linux, therefore I'm referring to the forum in hope someone can help me to sort this out.

Thanks!

I connect my camera memory thru a usb card reader so my answer may not help alot

but
can you name your distro pls?

2) As a normal user, can you access other usb devices or not?
That would indicate a group permission issue....and you can fix that....and can access the device thru root

3) Does your kernel support usb storage driver as built in or module?

4) with root you should be able to see your hard drive and any usb devices here
/dev/disk/by-path

ps

If you have KDE you can look at your usb devies in kinfocenter.

and

my camera reader is a /dev/sd(x)....where x is determined by other devices already established.

2) dmesg is not the file I would look at....try /var/log/messages or syslog

The distribution in question is Gentoo. The problem seems related to the named device. I have no issues mounting usb keys or my mobile phone, meaning, I simply plug the device, and the relavant device node is created.
