Printing to a Windows printer on home network...

I have three window's machine (2 XP and one 98SE) and I'm able
to print from either XP machine to the epson640 attached to the 98SE machine. But no matter what I try within SuSE10 the job never prints.

Computer 1 = XP/SuSE10
Computer 2 = XP
Computer 3 = 98SE

The network url for the printer is \\computer3\epson640.
I have went through the SuSE10 printer configuration several/many times trying the various settings...no luck.
I have CUPS running and I am able to 'share' files (Samba Server and Client loaded...I think) between all machines but I cant print from SuSE10 to the printer attached.

Within the printer config. wizard I have tried a 'Windows SMB' or the 'Cups' option...still no matter what I enter for the printer network address the job is never printed on \\computer3\epson640..any tips or links I could check out?
Thanks for your reply.

Check the thread http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=412200.

May be the solution for that guy works for you too.
In that case, it was solved by assign a password for the account in the windows which host the printer.
For some reason, password less accounts didn't work for printing.

Cheers,

I'm not sure I'm following the thread...where do I assign a password...to the printer itself or the machine I print to in the
windows enviroment? The printer I want to use is located in a shared printer folder on the 98 machine. Again do I assigned a password to the particular printer or the shared folder?...or am
I even on track?

You need to create an account at win98 machine, and use that account to print from the linux machines, using the smb protocol.

To test if you have access to the printer on the win98 machine from the linux machine, use the command:

Code:
# smbclient //computer3/epson640 -U username%password -W WORKGROUP
If you got the smb prompt, voilá, you have accesss. Type CTRL-D to close the connection.

Now, the URL for printing access via SMB to be used on the CUPS setup is:
Code:
smb://username:password@computer3/epson640
I hope this helps,

marozsas, from your previous post/link I figured the syntax out but still no luck. It wasnt until I switched to Windows (SMB) via the Printer Management GUI that the proper URL showed up and the test page went through perfectly...no password needed.

I wish I understood "how" I got it to work but for now I quess I'll just be satisfied that it does...thank u! for
your time
