printing to a windows printer in openoffice

Hi all,

I have an hp1220c printer set up on an xp box on my network that I want to print to from my gentoo desktop. I installed cups and samba and printed a test page using the web configuration utility, but I can't get it to work using the shell interface

lpadmin just times out when I try to connect:

# lpadmin -p HP1220C -v smb://user: pass@HUGGY-BEAR/HP1220C
lpadmin: Unable to connect to server: Connection timed out

lpr throws an error:

# lpr test.txt
lpr: error - scheduler not responding

The gui interface still happily prints it's test page

No errors coming up in /var/log/cups/error_log Anybody got any ideas what I could try next?? I needed to get this to work so I can print from openoffice, maybe there's another approach I could try?

Thanks,

James

I use to print to file or pdf in OpenOffice if it didn't work by just hitting print. Then i would fire open "Kprinter" and drag the file into to there and then it would print. Not the best option but it worked.

Thanks,

I think I'll just work on getting my local epson printer to work first. Hopefully then I'll know a bit more about CUPS and the answer will be more forthcoming.
