I just got my new installation to connect to the network, and now I want to set up print capabilities. I figure this is a good place to begin since I got so much help with my last situation.
Here are the facts:
I am using redhat 8.0
the printer is connected to a win xp box via a usb port
the 2 computers are connected to the same hub
the printer is a lexmark z23 -33 compatible
and sharing is enabled on the network.

So. Where do I begin? There are some print setup programs already installed on the linux box, but they seem more oriented towards setting up a local printer than a remote one

Hi!
First of all, i would take CUPS (if running http://localhost:631 but this doesn't really matter.

Then follow the install instructions. For the smb://path of the printer, use the following:
smb://usernameassword@xp_servername/printer_sharename

Make sure that under the smilie, there is a ":" and a "p".

username and password must be of an existant xp user.

I hope this gives you a first shot in the dark, else, search for older threads here in, there are many good ones... (I also learned it from here... )
