printer works fine in windows but is slow under linux
 

i have a canon bjc-80 printer.
i got it to work with no problem with mdk 9.1. i had been using it for a while, but i always thought it was way to slow (1ppm) and its not printing very neatly.
i tried printing under xp and it prints faster and really neat (at least at good as it gets with this printer).
does anyone know what might be doing this or how can i fix it???

What are the default settings for the DPI. Linux usually adds the highest resolution. 300X300 is Letter Quality. 150X150 would be draft. I would bet it is at 600X600 or better.

i dont really think that, because on windows it prints a lot better than on linux.
appart from the time it takes printing, the actual printing quality is better in windows.
where can i check the dpi its printing???

in a browser will connect to you CUPS system. Printers, Modify Printer...on your way.

There may be a better driver for your printer than the one you are using too. Go to linuxprinting.org, search for your printer and it will tell you the best one. For example, hpijs is the HP version of the driver for my printer, howewer GimpPrint-hpijs-en is a BETTER driver, and my photo quality is better in Linux than it ever was in Windows. (There are at least 12 drivers I can select that all work with my printer) (I inherited my wife's old printer.) Like everything in Linux, there are many ways to skin a printer. :)

It may be that, with cannon, this is a 100% reverse engineered driver, because cannon has not been all that Linux friendly.
