printer sets margins wrong (sometimes)

I am having trouble printing to my laserjet 1012 from openoffice word processor. When I do a page preview, it looks fine but when I print it, the margin at the top is too large and the last few lines at the bottom are missing.

If I export it as pdf first and then print it, it prints fine.
