Printer set up

I've downloaded Turboprint so that i can run my Canon i350 printer. This software works, but ....

From time to time, the computer stops taking to the printer. The print manager gui then shows an exclamation point in a triangle, superimposed on the icon for the printer. The only solution I've come up with is to remove the printer and then reinstall it. It's irritating.

Does anyone know how to deal more directly with this state of affairs. I'm running Fedora Core 1.

The condition itself will occur if I do not turn on the printer before booting. However, it can also occur for no apparent reason, and I won't discover that the computer isn't talking to the printer until I try to print.
