printer recognised but can't print
I have loaded linux Redhat 8 and I am in trouble with the printer aspect of the setup.
I have followed the instructions from the manuals which loaded with Linux Redhat 8 by going to System settings then Printing. In the printing config tool I select Local Printer. The config tool recognizes the fact that I have an Epson Stylus Color 440 on /dev/lp0. I have selected the recommended driver for that printer which is Gimp-print. When I complete the setup then set it as my default printer I try the test page but nothing happens. It does not print and a box comes up saying lpd restart succeeded. When this is OK'd another box tells me that there was an error trying to print the test page. Have tried selecting other printer drivers for the Epson Stylus Color 440 e.g.: gimp-print-ijs omni stc.upp stcolor None of these help the problem. Previously I had Linux Redhat 7.1 and printing facility worked perfectly. Linux8 printer config tool recognizes my particlar printer just as Linux 7.1 did but the end result is completely different. I am starting to wonder whether the printer drivers for the Epson 440 have a problem in Linux8. Could somebody help me solve this problem, please? |
do you have your hostname set to loopback in
/etc/hosts 127.0.0.1 hostname |
also make sure the cups deamon is running. I think rh has cups by default.
/etc/init.d/cupsd start It might be something different in redhat, but it's similar to this. |
Thanks for the prompt response. It's very much appreciated. I'll check out both suggestions, and advise of the outcome later this week.
