I have an Epson Strylus Color 760 that was recognized well in RH 8. I know its not the same but its damn close. Does kudzu recognize it at boot up and ask to configure it? If not, make sure kudzu is running and the printer is on at bootup. I wish I still had RH8 on my machine I could help you better. I remember that I was able to try all the available drivers and they did print - some better than others. Also, are you using cups or LPRng?
Well, you aren't going to be able to load drivers for a printer that isn't there
Is your printer a USB or parallel? Mine does both, but its hooked up parallel.
I also notice that its trying to load /dev/usb/lp1 - why not lp0? Do you have more than one printer port? Is this the stock kernel or did you reconfigure it.
>>I also notice that its trying to load /dev/usb/lp1 - why not lp0?
in experimenting with trying to get it to work, i had added > 1 printer.
I've removed the extras and get the same error with lp0
a module is a driver that is loaded into the running kernel at boot or when it is needed. If your running the original kernel, which I assume you are, the modules you need are most likely there.
Open a console and type "/sbin/lsmod". This will list the modules that are currently loaded. If you can, post the result here. I have to admit that I have no experience with usb printers. The quick and dirty way to get a working printer may be to attatch it as a parallel printer and let kudzu configure it. But, we should be able to get it running as a usb if that's what you want or need.
It may be that lp is being initiated before the usb modules are loaded. If you can post the output of lsmod it may help us figure out what's going on.
I have to go to work, but very quickly, it looks as though when lp is loaded it thinks there is a parallel printer and not a usb. The required modules for usb support are present and loaded. As it stands now, you would be able to hook up via parallel and have a working printer. a quick guess would be to stop paraport_pc from loading.
enter the following command from a console to see if the printer is recognized at the usb port
I have an epson stylus C42UX that was recognized perfectly by the system when i rebooted, although it wont print a thing. please help!
everything should be fine, but i either get an error message (couldn't print page) or the page just doesnt print
i'm using RH8
i've poked through the cups config pages, and each test page i send gets picked up by the queue, processed (it'll tell me that it's 20% done the job, etc) and yet nothing prints
