Long story: I was trying to get my Samsung printer to work on /dev/usb/lp0 with lprng. For some reason which I still don't understand, /dev/usb/lp0 has gone for good. I therefore switched to CUPS, which I've avoided in the past. I found the documentation to be rather unclear, especially as regards what to put for "queue". Eventually I discovered that it meant setting my printer as the default. Everything working now.
Oh ok, fair enough. In the future, instead of removing your original post, just edit it, and add in that you have solved your issue, and how, along with marking your thread as solved using the thread tools.
