Printer install issues

'm New (of course)

I'm having all sorts of problems out of ignorance with Linux. Not however, that I am not trying! Here goes. Im using Fedora Core release 1 (Yarrow)
Linux 2.4.22-1.2199.nptl and am trying to get my printer to work. I'm in the gnome desktop. I goto system settings - printing - new and do indeed see my printer listed "/dev/usb/ip0 EPSON USB MFP" (found the hardware). When I click to find the driver, its not there. So . . . I try to find the driver online, and after searching different places, I come up with two hopefuls.

1. "gutenprint-2.0.0-rc2" . . . . ok. I think I have here the files I need to make this work (somebody actully posted here about this printer(EPSON STYLUS CX4600) and said this file worked for him . . . sort of)but, I have no idea of how to install them or anything else. the closest I come is to the page where I see all the items in the folder listed. But extracting anything to anywhere to make this work is beyond me as I've been trapped by THE EVIL xp for years, and don't know jack. I am however, more than willing to put in the time to learn. Anyway, I hope somebody can help me. Oh yeah, number 2.
I went to /localhost:631/[/url] ( the cups homepage of sorts) and downloaded another file "cups-1-2rc1-fc4.i386.rpm.tar.bz2" and on this one luckily enough it uses some sort of extractor, but then tells me that it is missing a bunch of cups files in order to continue. Shouldn't these already be on my computer? ( I updated everthing I could yesterday)

Please if sombody could baby me through this it would be much appreciated. I don't want to take up peoples tiime with bull . . . . and have tried to get as far on my own as possible. Thankyou, Dave

Please do not post the same thread in more than one forum. Picking the most relevant forum and posting it once there makes it easier for other members to help you and keeps the discussion all in one place. This thread has been reported for closure.
