Printer install

I am running LinuxmintMaya and hooked up my HP P1005 to the laptop, switched the power on, and after a few seconds, the system announced "Printer P1005 installed". No such luck. Does anyone know how to install this fairly common laser printer to Linux Mint? I know Ubuntu and Moon do it faultlessly, but Mint? No. Any help appreciated. John.

See if you've got HPLIP on the machine -- look for
Code:
locate hp-setup
<or>
whereis hp-setup
If it's there, hook up the printer, turn it on and execute hp-setup which will create appropriate entries in CUPS for you:
Code:
su -
hp-setup
ought to do it.

If it's not there get it with whatever (apt-get, yum, etc.) utility you have for installing additional software then do the above.

Hope this helps some.

Maybe you haven't set printer as default printer. try printing & see if it's in the list of printers.

Yes, I had set it. However success! at the terminal I typed as suggested hp-setup which lead to several options. On the third try, it downloaded drivers and printed a test page. Thanks chaps.
