Printer Ink Level Command??

Quick question I hope. I have an Epson Stylus C64 printer and the printer ink level utility (GUI) does not work. I have checked the threads to see if anyone else has this problem to no avail. However I have seen where some couldn't get Ink Levels from the GUI but were able to obtain this info from a command line. So my simple newbie question is: Can anyone tell me what the if I can get ink levels from a shell and if so what is the command? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Try escputil -i -r /dev/lp0 changing the lp0 to your device if necessary and maybe even installing the escputil may help with the graphical if that is what it uses.

thanks for your reply-just tried that and all I got was the version # (4.2.7) and some stuff about letting me know there was no warranty for that program as follows:

Escputil version 4.2.7, Copyright (C) 2000-2001 Robert Krawitz
Escputil comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY; for details type 'escputil -l'
This is free software, and you are welcome to redistribute it
under certain conditions; type 'escputil -l' for details.

Didn't seem to access my printer and didn't give any errors either.
