Printer Guidance

Hello all, I am using slack 10.1, kernel 2.6.11.7 and an hp deskjet 722C parallel printer. Ok, here's the deal.

I broke out the old printer because I knew it had the possibility of working with linux. It needs pnm2ppa, so I downloaded and installed that. I copied the script to /usr/local/bin as ppaprint. When I try to print a text file with ppaprint [file] is outputs:
Code:
lpr: error - no default destination available.
I think I may need a ppd file? I am very new to setting up this printer and would appreciate it if someone could maybe help me through this. Thank you in advance, -Bill

I do not know what to do with CUPS, I can set up a printer in the web interface, but my printer is not listed (as it needs this driver pnm2ppa) so the printer I set up never prints the test page out.

You do not seem to have any printers configured in your system.

Use kde Control Center -> Peripheral Configuration -> Pinters. Very good interface.

You should also check parallel port configuration from your BIOS. I used to have printer of the series. It needed to have Enhanced Communication Port configuration.
