Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question Printer for pdf/ps Datastreams

Ink not being made anymore for still functioning Epson Stylus Color 640. Hoping by now there could be printers accepting pdf datastreams, but search did not turn up any. So now will have to use Ghostscript ps datastream.

To this end would be interested in any suggestion regarding inkjet Postscript printers. This would eliminate necessity of printer driver compatible with Linux, hopefully.

It's worth remembering that ghostscript handles many printers, and pdf along with postscript directly. Man gs is your friend. 'gs -h' lists supported printers.

Nowadays firmware and the variety of features on printers really requires you to have some printer specific drivers.

I'm disregarding colour, which imho is a waste unless you need it and spend well on a photo quality printer. I have HP_LaserJet_Professional_P_1102w mono laser on the wifi network. It's a bitch to install, but prints mono cheaply.

In Ireland there's cartridge refill shops all over populated places. Are they not any use?
