printer Dell J740 with linux ?

Hello, I'm trying to get a J740 printer from Dell working.

It is a USB printer and I'm using gentoo linux with a 2.6.7-r14 kernel.

When I connect it, I can see it in the log and it is seen as /dev/usb/lp0.

But, I can't print using "cat sometext.txt > /dev/usb/lp0" : nothing happens.

And moreover, I wasn't able to find any driver!!

Can someone help me ?

thanks

Robin

I believe the dell line of printers are produced by or at least based on lexmark designs. There are two or three listed at linuxprinting.org , and IIRC they use postscript. You might try the lexmark site, or the postscript option, AFAIK there is no real printing support for linux from dell.
good luck.
