Printer card does not finds photos but lists ? on each photo

This seems to be a common problem on both Cannon and Epsom printers when you insert a card it says x amount of photos only if they are jpg not jpeg and when you click on it it shows a ? for every one.

Sometimes if you load from a load of photos you have from a camera a photo will actually appear.

Anyone have an answer would be appreciated as this is bugging the hell out of me no matter how I put a jpg file on from Gimp etc they show a ? mark?

Thanks in advance

Using Fedora 25 to create the images on the card. Epsom xp-640 to show them on.

The printer is designed so that you can pull the card from the camera, insert and print pictures. The file structure and naming must comply with DCF standards. jpegs using exif version 2.3. You can not just copy and paste files from the computer to the card.

You did not post a model number for the Cannon but I would expect it to have similar requirements.

Solved it myself. I made the original images in Gimp as png file and saved to the card. Then in the card I renamed the images to .jpg. Beats me why it works but it does.
