Printer - Brother DCP385

Hi

Can anyone advise the best approach to installing this 3 in one printer (for printing).

CUPS finds no exact match for it, is it generally better to try an alternative Brother printer or generic or go down the ppd route (not sure I am able to do that).

Thanks for any advice

Mike

Additional question:- are printer drivers for different distributions of Linux (SUSE Ubuntu Fedora) mutually compatible? (sorry this is a dumb question)

Have you checked on Brother's site? I see a DCP385C listed.

If you are running Ubuntu, choose the .deb drivers.

I had the same problem with my Brother DCP7030 all in one printer and needed to install drivers for ubuntu from the Brother site. Both the cups and the lpr drivers will probably be needed. The printer won't work without both (in my case at least). Follow the installation instructions exactly. As Fred alluded to, make sure you choose the correct .deb version as well. My printer works flawlessly now for printing. Haven't taken the time to try to get the scanner working via Sane though. Cheers.
