printer
I am using redhat 8.0, and I have an hp deskjet960c install.
the problem is when I try to print something while the computer is online, there is no output, and it says the hostname is bad
I have dsl at home.
then I remove the oricono wireless card from my laptop, the printer is working fine.
my printer is an inkjet and I install it as a local printer.
I would like to know if anyone ever has this kind of problem before, and how did you fix it.
sincerely, kafnir

Is this when you try printing a webpage? If so try saving the page or copying the page and posting to another program.
If not give a bit more info like what you are trying to print, and where from. Can you print test pages? Can you print documents that you have saved?

I cannot print a webpage or a document from openoffice while the computer is online. if I need to print a document, I must remove the orinoco wireless card from my computer then the page print without any difficulty. when I try to print a test page, the printer complain the hostname "dhcppc3" is bad.
for example, when the computer is online and I open the terminal, the hostname call "kafnir@dhcppc3 kafnir".
if I remove the wireless card and I open the terminal, it calls " kafnir@localhost kafnir".
I can only print a test or webpage when I remove the wireless card from the computer.

Your wireless router is set to over-write the hostname of you laptop when you request a lease. There's a number of ways to stop that. The printserver you are using is set to deny any hosts except... probably just localhost knowing the paranoia of RH and Mandy defaults.
tackling it from the Linux side, you can set a hostname in /etc/sysconfig/network that a properly configured dhcp server shouldn't get to over-write... although this one might if its being a twerp, then you'll have to reconfigure your printer setting under the new (hopefully permanent) hostname.
Or, these wireless routers typically have a web interface GUI toy and are monstrously configurable. If you have the ability, i.e. its not at work, just set the thing to NOT send hostnames.
Cheers,
Finegan
