Print troubles

I'm having a little trouble setting up my printer (Samsung ML-1710). I'm running Crux 2.1. I've installed Ghostscript and Cups (in that order), downloaded/installed the PPD and foomatic stuff from linuxprinting.org. Started cupsd, added the printer using the web interface, but when I click "Print Test Page", the print job shows up as "completed", but nothing is printed. Any ideas why this may be happening?

Is your wire connected properly? Is it parallel or usb? Is it even detected?

Yes, the wire is connected. It is a USB printer. And yes, it is detected (shows up in USB View)

Also, are you using the right drivers for your printer?

Ok. So if it is detected in the usb list, it should a problem with your drivers as reddazz mentioned. Hm.. by the way, have you checked manually if you conf files has it set as usb and not parallel?

Thanks guys for the replies

There is paper in the tray! That was one of the first things I checked lol.

The driver I am using is this one from linuxprinting.org: http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_pr...amsung-ML-1710

And I'm quite sure it is configed for USB and not parallel. Here's my printers.conf:

Code:
<DefaultPrinter ML1710>
Info Samsung ML-1710
Location Office
DeviceURI usb://Samsung/ML-1710
State Idle
Accepting Yes
JobSheets none none
QuotaPeriod 0
PageLimit 0
KLimit 0
</Printer>
Now, I've played around with it for a bit, and I've come to notice a few things. I can print from the command line using something like:

Code:
lp -d ML1710 /usr/etc/cups/printers.conf
I can also print from KDE applications (Konqueror, Kwrite, etc.). However, the test print from the CUPS web interface still is not working, even though it shows the job as "Completed". I am unable to print from OpenOffice.org. I launced the program from a command prompt, and noticed the following error when I tried to print:

Code:
/home/carnage/.kde/share/config/gtkrc:37: error: unexpected identifier `gtk-alternative-button-order', expected keyword - e.g. `style'
FATAL: Could not configure the printing system backend!
lpr: Could not initialize LPP printing system
Attempting to print from Mozilla Firefox fails as well.

I'm at a loss as to why some applications will print while others fail.

I just tried test prints from webmin. The ASCII test works, but the two Postscript tests did not.
