Print problems with a Panasonic KX-P1150 9pin dot matrix printer

I'm having a problem getting the output in the format I want in CUPS 1.1. My distro is Mandrake Linux 9.2. What's happening is that the output is in a compress print format regardless of what I choose on the printer. The font size seems to be controlled by the filter but there doesn't seem to be an option I can send to the printer through the lpoption that has any effect on this what so ever. It would help if I could find out if there is some way to access these filters that CUPS is applying as I can't find the filter described in the lp.ppd.

Thank you for any help in this reguard.

Ok, I got this working. It turned out I had two issues. The first was the settings in /etc/cups/lpoptions which set the left and right margins to 36 pts, the cpi to 12 and the lpi to 7. I changed the left and right margins to 6pts, cpi to 10 and the lpi to 5. That took care of the problem of shaving off characters on normal printing with US letter size.

Now for the forms it turned out all I really needed to do was a raw lp to by pass all the filtering and let the control codes out my invoicing program handle the printing. It worked like a dream.
