Practical solution to no sound & no LAN

I've assembled a new system with an Asus P4PE-X motherboard. However I've found out that RH9 does not support the on board LAN with the Broadcom 4401 chip set and does not support the on board sound which is AC97 SoundMAX. I have spent a lot of time with the Linux LAN driver bcm4400_1.0.2.tar.gz from the ASUS installation CD without sucess and spent more time with the downloaded alsa-driver-0.9.1ADI.tgz from also without sucess. I'm new to Linux and my energy in persuing Linux is ebbing and the practical viewpoint would be to change either the motherboards or the distribution or both.

Could someone sujest another linux distribution that supports these 2 features or a different motherboard with a 478 P4 socket and DDR DIMM memory sockets, whose LAN and on board sound is supported and by which distribution.

Thanks, Dan
