pppd options error (exit code 2)

(Running Suse8.1 on a virgin P4 1.8, 512 RAM - no other hardware or software installed)

Does anyone have any idea what this error actually means, or where I can look to find out?

The modem, a linux supported USR 5610, seems to have installed fine, and works under Win2k.

In LInux it appears to be configured correctly, but when I run Kinternet, and select Dial in, the lightning bolt flashes, and then stops.

The log states:

pppd died : pppd options error (exit code 2)

Has anyone any ideas on how I can get this error fixed?

Thank you in advance!!

Niall ( a very new Linux user)

SOLVED pppd options error (exit code 2)

OK,

Here's what I did, and I'm posting this to help others.

Yast2 allowed me to configure Earthlink as a choice. I deleted all configurations (including the modem itself) and recongifgured choosing a generic provider (i.e. not one of the options listed).

I entered the specific relevnt data for my provider, and then i chose

STUPID MODE (it's a check box)

It stops some sort of ppp test that the system does.

Well, once configured, I hit dial in, and I'm posting this from my linux connection.

I'm sure I'll be back with some other questions, and I apologize for posting before exploring EVERY option....

Niall.
