poweredge sc 1425

Ok, a friend of mine bought a DELL Poweredge sc 1425 server, the thing says it's tested with Red Hat enterprise, My firiend asked me if it was possible to install red hat 9 or fedora (because they are free) in it, I attempted the install with red hat 9, and It does not regognise the hardware, ( it states no devices will be loaded) has anybody had the experience with this machine, is it possible to install rh9 or fedora in this machine ?

thanks

We buy poweredge 1450 (or used to before they switched to a newer model) by the truck load. We install Redhat 7.3 on almost every machine, and the rest get Enterprise 3.0. You may want to look at what is different between 1425 and 1450 because I don't know. The 1450 has a megaraid controller, don't know about yours.

Thanks for the info, but it has to be rh9, anyway it's good to know that if all else fails (including convicing my friend of buying rh enterprise) the serever can run on rh 7.3

I've just bought a PowerEdge SC420 for home - I couldn't load RH8 on it because it wouldn't recognize the SATA hard-drive, but I can report that I had few problems loading Fedora Core3 - and most of them were due to the fact that I've only been laying with Linux for a couple of weeks.

Mike.
