power adapter

Which one of these is correct? Shouldn't they both work? They are both different, so how can they both work? One says something about Seagate. I thought the other was supposed to work with all sata hard drives.

Sata internal power is sata internal power just like molex is molex. Yes, either will work. The seagate drives usually do not come with a data cable. These drives run warmer than most.

Really they run warmer? I read that in the review. Then why do people say Seagate is better than Western Digital and others?

Who makes the best drive often changes with each new drive that comes out. The drive running hotter is just something to be aware of. If you have marginal airflow already then it may be an issue. The reason I mention it is that some people freak out when they see their seagate running 10 degrees warmer than their WD. My box currently has a 250 WD, 2X160 Deskstars (when they were still IBM), and a 320 Seagate. All were the "best" when I got them.

Why would a Seagate run hotter than a Western Digital when they are both running at 7200 RPMs?

Just a difference in design. Bearing design, cooling method, silencing method, etc. Just like most AMD processors run cooler than most Intel processors.

It seems to me that both connectors are wire the same and at the correct pins. What ever you choose is up to you.

IMHO, Seagate drives are crap and picky with voltage levels. I recommend and prefer people to buy either Hitachi or Western Digital hard drives because they are not picky with voltage level and they are much cooler (temperature) than Maxtor and Seagate drives. Yes, I have a Maxtor and two Seagate drives. I use them occasionally, but I will never use them for desktops or servers. While you are at Newegg.com, select a good power supply. I have a Seasonic S12-430 (430 watt) that is quiet and regulates voltage within 1%.

The term OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) means parts that usually come in retial are left out. OEM parts are usually cheaper and sometimes not structurally sound as the retail parts.

BTW, This thread is better for the General Forum but not in this forum.
