Exclamation Possable xfree86 bug in agp

ok , i have installed nvidia's 1.0-4363 linux drivers and modified the xfree86 configuration according to the read me and am using the "NvAGP" "1" option that enables nvidias native agp driver.

one thing i have noticed after countless hours of no sleep is that no matter what options you enable in the xfree86.conf file that stupid little "enable hardware acceleration" check box in the display properties cann not be checked.

HOWEVER , when i check /proc/drivers/nvidia/status it says that the driver being used is Nvidia and that agp is enabled at 4x, fast writes and sba are not enabled yet as i still have to do this.

what has me thinking this is a bug is the fact that all the fancy screen savers that use partical engines and open gl work flawlessly as well as TUX racer.

now befor i go officialy declaring its an xfree86 bug i need to figure out how to test my frame rates.

but im starting to suspect a bug that somehow is keeping xfree86 from enabling that stupid little checkbox.

so what i am asking is for a few more people to set up xfree86.conf as indicated by the read me and add :

Option "NvAGP" and set the value to "1" and see if they can check that box and check thier /proc/drivers/nvidia/status file for matching info and do some frame rate testing to see if this can be reproduced or if it is just something with my system.

the only thing i havent done yet is to add the alias to modules.conf but i imagine that shouldnt make a differance.

if this can be reproduced on systems other than mine running red hat 9 i will do the bug report for it.

thanx in advance for any help with this.

Are you familiar with the AMD AGP memory problems?

Gentoo article about it

Make sure that isn't part of your problem.

After reading "this issue has *NOT* been tied to Athlon/Duron Processors (and yes i read the whole article) you should note my signature. apparently my T-BIRD is not affected by this bug. allthough the gart on my board might be , this is why i want others to test it possably on non amd systems to see if they can reproduce it. i knew it existed hence the request. But thanks for the sugjestion.

can't help ya with the Nvidia testing issue (i'm attempting to get my Radeon 9700 Pro to work)
but you can still check your frame rate by going to console and typing "glxgears"
it'll bring up a new window with three gears spinning and in console it will give you the frame rate.

Btw, is the check-box you are talking about in the Redhat-XFree86-Config utility? If it is...forget about it....it's worthless.

Another thing...just check back in to Nvidia's website and look at their online Readme for the section on modifying your XF86Config file (sorry for repeating it if you have about a thousand times already)

Good Luck!

thanks for the info on glxgears i knew there was one in the driver but i couldnt remember how to get it going as far as the xfree86 config file i do have it set up right which is why im suspecting the gui bug but like i said the acceleration *seems* to be active and werkin just one of those things that would reduce alot of post if it could officialy be called a bug
