Plugging in an external disk causes a filesystem error on root volume

When I plug in an external disk (via USB) I get
Quote:
EXT4-fs error (device sda1) in ext4_free_inode:355: Corrupt filesystem
What file/location on the disk is being used that would cause this error?. /dev/sda1 is mounted on / . . e2fsck finds no problems with /dev/sda1

Perhaps the UUID is NOT unique??? Did you dd the same image to multiple disks? The UUID is partition specific.

It is. Would that have caused the error the kernel returned?

They meant for you to run blkid as root.
