Question Please suggest a good cpu/mobo combo at about 2.8G

I am looking to upgrade a box - I want to get a CPU/Motherboard combination that has good Linux compatability. I am getting dizzy going backwards and forwards between hcl lists and online stores trying to find an available spec for a CPU/Motherboard combination. I want to get something at about 2.8GHz that doesn't have compatability problems. I will probably be using Fed Core 3. It will be a lan pc and good sound and video would be nice to have.

If you can make a suggestion it would be much appreciated.

Abit NF7 and AMD 3200 barton core. (2.2G). You can overclock the less expensive 2500 barton core to get 3200 speed. This is what I'm doing.
The NF7 motherboard has the -S extenson for Serial ATA, -M for built in video (low end). With this board and Fedora you'll need to install the Nforce drivers, you get them from the NVidia web site. This makes the on board sound and ethernet work.

Welcome to LQ. You might want to take a look at the LQ HCL if you haven't done so already, which contains a large number of ratings and reviews on a variety of devices, including mobos and CPU's. Good luck with it -- J.W.

Thx J.W. Yes I have spent a few hours there and picked up a lot. Just trying to get a combination that works as opposed to separate components. May try Randyding's suggestion.
