Please help with sound issues/other issues

Ok, I'm warning you now: I am new to using Linux. I have been using Windows since 3.1 and into XP. But my friend set me up with SUSE Linux, and Im just trying to figure it out now...

Ok, so after about 3-4 hours, I get SUSE 10 installed. Now, after install, I am unable to play sound files, but it is reconizing my SB Live! Platinum 5.1... The extent of sound I was able to do was "cat /dev/urandom > /dev/dsp" to test, and it worked. Now, I installed a few other packages in YaST, including ALSA, and now YaST still reconizes i have a SB Live 5.1, but nothing else will. Not only that, but my /dev/dsp file no longer exists. When i go into the Control Center-->Sound and Multimedia-->Sound System, the sound system itself is marked as Enabled. When I go into the Hardware tab, reguardless of which audio device i pick, it tries to start the sound system, gets to 90%, then starts again from 0, and continues to do this. Can anyone help with this? I just want to be able to use my sound card, and Creative Labs doesnt even have drivers for Linux on their web site...

Also, while im at it, I have a Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer (the one with the 2 buttons on the side), and I cant get them to enable for Forward/Backward in any web browser. Can someone help with this as well?

One more thing (i know, im getting annoying...), and I dont really care, but would like to enable this if possible... I am using Netscape for Linux, and when I center-click in Windows Netscape on a tab, it closes that tab. Im not sure if this is Linux related, but in Netcape Linux, it doesn't. Is there any way to activate this as well?

Thanks in advance!

For the sound, try disabling the sound system and run "alsaconf" on the command line.
