please help--suse 9.0--modem configuration

please help---suse 9.0--modem configuration

a few days ago installed suse 9.0 pro on my computer ( pt4. 1.8 GHz , win xp pro / suse 9.0 pro, wincomm 56k v92 dial-up modem). it's my first contact to linux and i'm not a tech. until now i didn't find anyone to help me with my problem.
the installation process ran without any problems. it detected my internal dial-up modem (56k,V92).i tried to configure it but here it started with problems. it ask me which country i live in. but there are only about 8 countries in europe, the us and canada. but i live in asia.so i installed a new isp.the test to access the internet failed. i can hear the dial-up tone but it doesn't connect.
found this in the log

pppd (0): sending:ATDT 029009600
pppd (0):waiting for carrier
pppd (0):NO CARRIER

02 is the aera code and 9009600 is the phone number of the isp here.

i hope you can help.and don't forget i'm not a tech. i still have more questions but the internet is the most important now.
thanks a lot.

I am not sure about this but......... if you were to dial that number on the phone, would you need to add the country code? "Maybe" not having the country code would work.
Good luck.

no, i don't think so. on win xp it works also witout the country code. and if i used the country code they would charge me with an international call.

I too am a Linux newbie and since my idea does not work you might want to subscribe to one of the SUSE mailing lists. I am subscribed to suse-e which is a VERY active list (about 200 posts a day) but also a VERY good place to get info. The link to the mailing lists is http://www.suse.com/us/private/suppo...sts/index.html

I hope you get your problem resolved soon.
