Please help me to configure my PCTel HSP micromodem under RH8.0

I am using a PCI internal modem of the DAX with the PCTel789 chipset. It is smoothly working under Windows. I recently installed RedHat Linux 8.0 with kernel version 2.4.14-18(pshyche). But my modem is not working under linux. The OS got freezed while probing the modem. Then I thought it was a problem with the lack of a driver and I have searched it on the Internet. I As I am new to linux I have downloaded the 'PCTel HSP Micromodem Linux HowTo' and as per the instructions I have proceeded successfully to the ./configure command. But during the make command a lot of warning and errors occurred especially recursive errors and I was confused. Does my modem really wants a driver or how can I configure my modem to function properly on this version of Linux? How do I connect my modem to the Internet? Seeking for a help to give a procedural instruction from the starting itself.

I've compiled Jan's driver for RH 7.2. I don't know if this will work for 8.0 . Try renaming the directory /usr/src/linux-2.4.18-14 to /usr/src/linux. Compile your drivers then install them. Afterwards rename the directory back to linux-2.4.18-14.
