Angry Please, anyone of experts, help me !!!


Hi to all...

I have a big problem with notebook Compaq Presario nx1000.

i am a newbie in linux (suse 9.2 pro, kernel 2.6.8.24-11.

my irda adapter don`t recognized by system. i have detected in windows, that my chip is smc-ircc.

i have found this module in src/linux. how to compile and install this driver into the system ?

or can anyone of you provide a complete help for dummies how to enable irda support in this notebook ? please, anyone, help me !!!!

p.s. i hope, that peoples can help me....

Use "lsmod" to see if the smc-ircc module is already loaded, if not, try (as root) "modprobe smc-ircc" and see if it works.

lsmod - no smc-ircc

modprobe - FATAL - moduel smc-ircc not found.

how to compile and include this driver (i found smc-ircc.h) ?

anything ending with .h is a header file in C, and isn't a driver. Its likely that the driver isn't included in your kernel and you may need to download it seperate.

i don`t find this driver separately, but i know now that i must to include and recompile kernel with this driver...

can you provide step by step instruction of compilation and installation of new kernel ? all sources are installed but not configured...

i running make xconfig, then i see that i have choice to include this driver into kernel...

make xconfig && make depend && make modules && make modules_install && depmod -a

This is assuming that all you are going to do with xconfig is only make changes to which modules you have. After this, try "modprobe smc-ircc" again. Good luck.
