I've got several problems with Pinnacle PCTV/Mandrake 10 CE/Linux version 2.6.3-7mdksecure. I've been searching on google and this board, but didn't come up with an answer.
1) The modules arent loaded automatically, although they are in /etc/modprobe.conf (Also tried them in /etc/modules and /etc/modprobe.conf
2) After I load them manually, xawtv and tvtime doesnt detect any channels. Xawtv only shows the top 10% snow and the rest is black or got a distorted picture of mandrake.. No signal whatsoever.
Under Windows this card worked ok, the cable does have a good signal.
Files:
[root@apeldoorn ger]# cat /etc/modules
# /etc/modules: kernel modules to load at boot time.
#
# This file should contain the names of kernel modules that are
# to be loaded at boot time, one per line. Comments begin with
# a `#', and everything on the line after them are ignored.

I've got another problem, now I cant do a modprobe bttv anymore.
I get:
[root@apeldoorn ger]# modprobe bttv

I installed a bttv driver update (version 0.9.15) but I dont know how to remove it. I've upgraded my kernel, hoping that that would resolve the issue.
I have the same distro and the same card, however I am further back in the installation.
The sourceforge page for the zoran drivers does not make it clear that it works with a 2.6.x kernel so I emailed the developer to ask. His reply stated:
"The driver works very well on 2.6.x kernels. It works so well, that it is included in your Mandrake (or any other 2.6 kernel, for that matter)kernel already by default. Run 'modprobe zr36067' and you're ready."
However when I type modprobe zr36067 (as root) I get:
FATAL: Error inserting zr36067 (/lib/modules/2.6.3-4mdk/kernel/drivers/media/video/zr36067.ko.gz): No such device
The card *is* in the machine, but I suspect the "no such device refers to a Linux sofware "device". Am I right?
I am also a newbie so any help would be *very* much appreciated.
I think, it is because you have bought your card after you have installed your system.
You have to download a kernel, and choose v4l. That s it.
Take a look in your documentation on how to debug a kernel.
