Photocopier giving me trouble.

Hey I'm setting up Linux and my volunteer job after Windows was causing too many problems.

I've run into problems with the photocopier. The photo copier is a SHARP AR-M317. I've installed the latest version of Lubuntu. Lubuntu sees the photocopire but when you attempt to print form it nothing happens.

I've followed the documentation included with the drivers here: sharpusa.com/ForBusiness/DocumentSystems/MFPsPrinters/ARM317.aspx]AR-M317

The section involving CUPS is for a version released about 10 years ago I followed it as best I could though. CUPS detects the printer as well.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could get this printing without having to reinstall windows?

A few things are unclear from your post. What have you installed ubuntu on?
Can you print from the linux box presuming there is one?

Can you find any errors, and what are they?

I've installed Lubuntu on an old HP desktop (not infront of in right now). Printing dosn't work, and I see no errors. If I try to print when it's in idle it will wake up, but won't print.

Get on the old HP desktop, and try printing a test page. does that work?
Try also cleaning heads, clearing the queue, etc. Check if any jobs have been presented, or if they failed to be printed.

Took me a while to get infront of the computer. When I send the test page from CUPs I will say "Sending data to printer." and then it will say the job is completed under a minutes later. If it is idle and a job it sent it will wake from idle but not print.

Printing worked fine under Windows.

Sharp offers a Linux driver on this page: http://www.sharpusa.com/ForBusiness/...x?view=drivers

CUPS has some drivers for that model on this page (search for the printer model in the dialog at the top)--there's a lot of downloads at the link: http://www.cups.org/ppd.php

When you set up the printer in CUPS manually, you will come to a point where CUPS gives you the option to load a PPD driver. Or you can do it this way:

Sounds to me like missing firmware. Most drivers these days need firmware sent to the printer before they will print.

There's no firmware to download on the downloads page for this copier, and googleing "sharp ar-m317 firmware" turned out nothing. Looks like I might just have to go back to Windows. :(
