Persistent USB and ATI SB600 southbridge problems

I'm having persistent problems with USB devices on my computer, as soon as a plug my storage stick into the USB ports it brings the USB stack down. I have had this problem with two motherboards for ages. I found a bug report saying that it was a know problem with some kernel but should be fixed in 2.6.24-13. Today I downloaded the Opensuse 11 beta 1 live CD which has kernel 2.6.25rc9 and get the same crash.

Here is the output from the log from the point when the USB stick is put into the socket. Can anyone report having the same problems with motherboards using ATI 690/790 chipsets coupled with the SB600 southbridge?

Thanks

since no one has replied yet can i ask

1) do these usb devices work on other people's computers?

I am wondering this..as I spotted a fat and (personally) I prefer xfs format for usb sticks even tho yours may be drives.

2) have you tried this with usb devices unplugged at boot up and plug in one at a time in different order to see which one is the one that crashes your usb system?

The USB devices work perfectly in a number of computer. I not going to try to fix this anymore I have put the motherboard in a cluster and it is happily crunching data and USB in not required anymore. Thanks for you help, but life it too short for strange USB problems.

Thanks,
Phil
