Pentium D - Dual-Core problem
I have a Pentium D 820 processor on an ASUS P5RD1-VM motherboard.
My kernel is compiled to support SMP and otherwise works without issue. The problem I have is that the 2nd core does not seem to work. This part of the dmesg output seems relevant: Code:
CPU0: Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHz stepping 04 |
I have the same problem
I posted about it on the Fedora Forums
However, have not found a solution for it. If I do, I'll post here and there. Hope you'll do the same. |
A link to my Fedora Forums post might be helpful ...

I have the same problem with a Quad core Q9300, but I see the issue ONLY if I go into the GRUB boot menu and choose Linux (instead of letting it boot by default into Linux).
Yes, this is not much of a problem unless I need to boot into an older version of the kernel. Adding noapic didn't help. But adding options "noapic nolapic acpi=off" and removing the "quiet" option succeeds about 1 out of 5 times! I will update if I find anything new. If others find something new, please post it here.
